You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
What an amazing promise, we are Christ’s because he chose us.
We tend to think that it is us who initiates our relationship with Christ. We have come to a place in our life that makes us seek out God and by finding him we are able to have a relationship and accept salvation. Isn’t It so fortunate for him that we have chosen to seek him out.
This sounds silly but sometimes by the way we aproach and teach about salvation, even when we emphasize salvation by Grace alone, we make it seem like we are the ones who initiate the relationship.
We contribute nothing to Grace! It has been there all along, not waiting to be found or sought out, Grace chose you before you were created. Our only part in Grace is beleif in Christ, he has done everything else. He sought you, He chose you, He died for you, He washed you, He has made you clean and righteous before the Father. You will spend eternity in Glory because He chose you.
He also has a plan for you, to bear fruit, good friut that lasts and glorifies God. We are called to be a good witness to the Grace that has been given us. Sharing the faith within you to others who have been chosen just like you, but don’t know it yet. Some would say “so works are required”, I say only an extremely lazy, ungrateful, self important man would consider sharing something that was given freely, in abundance and undeserved with others “work”. If it is work, then Jesus is the kind of boss I want to be working for. Knowing that he promises whatever we ask the father in his name will be done, and that, only because HE chose us.
But he isn’t our boss, if you look at the verses before this one and others throughout the new testament you find he calls us freind, brother co-heirs to the kingdom of heaven. Why wouldn’t you want to share such awesome news?
Christ chose you before one nail peirced his body, don’t diminish the Grace given you by not proclaiming it daily to those around you.
GOD is GOOD!!!
